ATHEMOO How-To
How to Get There.
There are several ways to connect:
- If you are using a Java-capable Web Browser (such as Netscape 3 or
higher), check out ATHEMOO's new Surf N Turf Client!
- If you can use telnet from your Web Browser, click here to connect to ATHEMOO.
- If you are on a UNIX system, type: telnet moo.hawaii.edu 9999.
NOTE: on some systems you may need to type the word "port"
(without the quotation marks) before 9999.
- If you are using a client program, such as TinyFugue or
Muddweller,
(click on Muddweller to find download instructions) enter the HOST as
moo.hawaii.edu and the PORT
as 9999.
- You can also browse
ATHEMOO in non-interactive mode using your web browser
What Do I Do When I Get There?
After the friendly welcome message appears, type connect Guest at
the prompt to explore. You will be assigned a temporary Guest
character, such as "Shakespeare's Guest."
How Do I Talk to Someone?
To speak to someone, type the word SAY followed by what you want
to say, such as:
say How's the weather in Australia today?
To emote, or perform an action, type a colon followed by the
action, such as:
:jumps up and touches the ceiling.
How Do I Get My Own "Character"?
Contact the ATHEWizard Juli Burk at
burk@hawaii.edu and ask for a
character. [If you have a mail-capable browser, just click on
Juli's address to send her email!]
